Visit of Pope Leo XIV
On July 4, 2026, Pope Leo XIV will visit Lampedusa, his first visit to Sicily. A symbolic return to the island that has become the heart of the Mediterranean between welcome and migrant tragedies. The Pope declined the US invitation to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, choosing instead to go to Lampedusa. The visit will take place in the morning and will attract faithful from all over Italy. Following Pope Francis' historic visit in 2013, Leo XIV will pray for the victims of the Mediterranean and bring comfort to migrants and reception workers.
