Why Is It So Special?
Rabbit Island is a small islet located just a few meters from the south coast of Lampedusa, separated from the mainland by a shallow stretch of sea that can be crossed on foot during certain times of the year.
The beach facing the island is famous for:
- Crystal clear water with shades ranging from turquoise to deep blue
- Pristine white sand very fine, almost Caribbean-like
- Caretta Caretta turtles that come every year to lay their eggs on the beach
- Spectacular seabed ideal for snorkeling
The beach is part of the Lampedusa Island Oriented Nature Reserve, managed by Legambiente, which is why access is regulated to protect this unique ecosystem.
How to Book Access
Booking required in high season
From June to September access is limited. The maximum number of daily visitors is restricted to protect the turtle habitat.
How to Get There
🛵 By Land
- 1. Reach the Reserve parking lot (follow signs to "Isola dei Conigli")
- 2. Park and collect your ticket at the entrance
- 3. Walk down the trail (~20 minutes)
- 4. Enjoy the beach!
Warning: the trail is steep. Bring comfortable shoes and water. The climb back up can be tiring in the hot hours.
🚤 By Boat
Boat trips always pass by Rabbit Island. You can admire the beach from the sea and swim in the crystal clear waters (without landing on the beach).
It's the best way to see the famous "flying boats" that seem suspended in the air thanks to the water's transparency.
